Human beings have caused and continue to cause major environmental disasters. Sometimes by accident or lack of awareness, and other times intentionally. Some damage is already irreversible, but in many cases we still have time to solve the problem if we take the appropriate measures . Let yourself be impacted by some of the greatest catastrophes for the planet caused by the hands of people. Do you think we exaggerate? Well, don't miss this post. Download our free guide on global warming here and discover its causes and consequences. Atmospheric pollution Air pollution is a phenomenon that affects a large part of the planet, mainly large cities like the one in the image, and that causes serious damage to our health. According to the study published by Ecologistas en Acción “Air quality in the Spanish State during 2017” , both in Spain and in Europe the standards recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) are being exceeded , who, together with the Agency European Environment Agency (EEA) , estimates that in 2014 there were half a million premature deaths due to poor air quality . The main cause of air pollution is cars , followed by heating and, behind, maritime and air traffic. Desertification The causes of the desertification that the planet is suffering are diverse: the indiscriminate felling of large areas of jungle and forest, fires, misuse of soil and water, open-pit mining exploitation or intensive grazing.
The danger of all this is that, according to what National Geographic tells us , in a hundred years the tropical jungles and rainforests could disappear completely . Furthermore, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) informs us that this problem affects more than 250 billion people and puts the livelihoods of one billion people in more than 100 countries at risk . Recovering a desertified area is very difficult and, as the years go by, it gets worse. However, the famous photographer Sebastiao Salgado and his wife, Lélia Wanick Salgado, managed to recover the jungle on land inherited from their parents, and they show us how they did it in the documentary The Salt of the Earth . Tides of plastics in the sea The tide of plastics that wanders through the ocean is no longer one, but many and in various places. The tide of plastics in the Pacific Asia Mobile Number List Ocean is as large as the sum of the areas of Spain, France and Germany, and it continues to grow! Also in the Mediterranean Sea, near the islands of Ibiza and Mallorca, we have large concentrations of floating plastics . These islands of garbage are suffocating the fauna of the seas and oceans. In addition, plastic microparticles sneak onto our table , into the salt, and are swallowed by the fish. It is urgent that we reduce the consumption of plastics to stop seeing the pollution that the image above shows us.

Sometimes fires are the result of an accident or recklessness. In this case, it is necessary to allocate more resources to the maintenance and cleaning of forests to prevent, as far as possible, fires from spreading easily. Other fires, however, are intentional in order to reclassify the land and make it developable for commercial purposes. Although it is possible to recover the burned forest, it has a high economic cost and takes several years . Oil spills into the sea Who doesn't remember the environmental disaster caused by the Prestige spill on the Galician coast in 2002 ? Impossible to forget those images of the oil spill and the more than 65,000 volunteers who came from all over Europe to clean up the mess, right? However, the list of oil spills at sea around the world is endless and the consequences for the environment are terrible: thousands of dead animals, water and land contaminated for years, impoverishment of fishing populations, etc. The Aquae Foundation tells us that in the last 50 years there have been more than 130 serious oil spills . Can you imagine the consequences? Melting of the poles Not enough is said about the melting of the poles.
